First Of Flying-boats For Tasman Service
AUCKLAND, April 21. The first of the four new Solpnt flying-boats'' for Tasman Empire Air ways Ltd., the Aotearoa II., made it: initial "test flight at Belfast on Wed nesday, according cto informatipn re ceived by . the company at Auckland Captain T. W. Brook-Smith, chief tesi pilot of the manufacturers, Shori Brothers and Harland Ltd,, reporteil that his flrst impression of the aireraft 's -performance was "very favour able. " The Aotearoa II. will be namea at Belfast on May 26 by Princess Elizabeth who will be aceompanied by ihe Duke of Edinburgh. The expected date of arrival of the flying-boat fit Axrcklfend is not yet known. Construction of th'e remaining three Solent flying-boats for the Tasman service, the A rarangi, Awatere had .Aranui, is well advanced and they are expected to be completed shortly.
