AUCKLAND, ApKil 21. A sweeping victory was scored by. the mpdjerate faction' ih the cohtehi' for the three pripetpai posts in the anawai electjon of officers of the Auckland' j.Taa.es Cpimcil tonight,. Although tl>f> votes for the remainder pf tlie execu > tivp will not be counted until tomorrow, it is cerfain from tipket vo'ting whicn was adopted, that the Communists ahd Left-wingers wili fail in their attempt to regain the eontrol they lost last year. There was an attendance of 1.83 delegate^. In the contest for the office of president, the secretary of the Seamep's Union, Mr. -T. F, Anderson, def eafed the prominent Communist, Mr. A. Drpm nan, national vice-president of tht Water side Workers' 1 Union, by 44 votes. The retiring president, Mr. J. Freenlan, vice-president pf the Tiniber Workers' Union, did not 'Seek "he election. The retiring vice-presidept, Mr. J. TJennings, of the Caretakers' and Giea.i}' ers' Union, was re-eleeted. defeatina another prominent Communist, Mr. R. Stanley, national secretary of the Carpenters' Union, by 57 votes. The retiring secretary, Mr. H. S Callagher, secretary of -the Cocal Bod;. Labourers' Union, was also re-elected His majority over Mr. A. E,' Apdrews, nominee of the Drivex's' Union, waS 67. Mr. Di'ennan, sitting delegate, was defeated by Mr.. Anderspn in the eop test for the national "execptiv,e. Details of the voting are: — President: Anderson 113 votes, D?ennan 69. « Vice-president: Jennings 120, Stanlgy 63. Secretary-treasurer : Callagher 32.4, Andrews 57. National councillor: A.nderson 110, Drennan 73. ' Although the Auckland Trades Conn cil pntered the year with a dpbi] balance due to mis&ppropjiation pf funds by the former secretary, Waitp' Ashton, the financial position had been restored and the yegr ended with a use ful surplus. This'4 was mentioned in a strongly worded report presented by the .executive. It was regretted that after the present executive had takep offipp, the bahavuior of the faetion whiGh had •supported Mr. Ashton, suggested it had not been appretiative of the eft'orts of ^delegates who'Jhad removed Mr. Ashton -from office, cohtihued the report.
