Red Cross Society Reviews Solid Year's Work

The annual meeting of t.ne Levin Cross Society yesterday saw the re-election of last years presirdent, Mrs. F. W. Wilson. Other offlcers elected were as follows: — Patron: Mr. H.. B: Burdekin; vicepresiden'ts : Mesdames E. W.' Clark, D. Hair and J. F. Bryce, and Miss ;H. E. Bowen; secretary: Mrs. A. W. Parton; auditor: Mr. J.s. Al-3'i present was the director-gen-:rU of tne Red Cross V.A.D.'s, Miss I. CTooke, who was accompanied by the secre.r tary-genecal of the New Zealand Red Cross, Capt. M. Gal uvay. Parcels And Gift Work. In her annual report, Mrs Wilson said that the year had1' not brought forth any special calls for funds, but had been one of goodso'id work, with all meetings weil a' tended. Thanks were due, she said, to the Levin Horticultural Society for making it possible to add to the societv's funds. The parceis and gifts packed for the T.B. ward of the Palmers, on North Hospital was a worx .in which members had taken a great interest, and the grati ude of the patients more than repaid this effort, ccntinued Mrs. Wilson. Gifts and flowers were a so sent 'io th'e local sick persons throiigh the district nurse. The Junior Red- Crpss was to be thanked for knitting gaxments for overseas. They were:, a sp endid fittle band and were under he leadership of Miss Audrey Nichol. She thought that the saniors could do more for the juriLors, said the president, and she would iike to see first aid and honie nursing clssses for them. Thanks were dus to Mrs. Parton, the branch'o secretary, and to the loyal peop e of Levin, whcse support had made the work possible. Wa.ts Motors, Ltd., were to be thanked for the ccnveyance free of charge of parcels for Palmerston North. In her report to the meeting,. Mrs. Webb said that 54 parcels had been sent t6 Brilain during the year. Mr. Burdekin, in congratulating :he branch on its year's activity, 3aid that it could take great credit. The members were an active band )f good workers. Capt. Galloway ilso added his congratulations.
