The president's repoft was as follows: "I have pleasure in presenting the annual report covering the activities of the association dunng, 1948, and in so 'doing would like to thank all those teams who came forward last year, making .it such a successful season. It is not necessary for me to eulogise the value of our association, as this has been proved beyond • doubt during th» year under review, through the continued.support of our members, that we are giving of our best to the youth — for the betterment of their health and recreation. "With deep regret we had to record the loss during the year of our patron, Mr. H. Nieolson, and- vieepresident, Mr. H. Witchell, whom I am sure we all miss very much. "We had seven ladies' and four men's teams participating in the club competitions, and it is hoped that this season we will make furtther headway by having a further three ladies' and three men's teams. Raukawa B in the ladies' section and Te- Horo in the men's were the successful club champions. "During the year the ladies played representative games against Wellington B and Rangitikei B and

' C. The men played Fei'ding A and B. We. shall endeavour to take teams further afield this season if it is at all possible.- Successful seven and five-a-side tournaments were run at the end of the season. May I thank the Levin and Otaki Borough Councils and the residents of Te Horo for making playing fields available, and hope they will do the same this season. Others that I would like to express appreciation to for their generous help are Mrs. J. Porter for hockey nets and the Levin Fire Brigade, and espegially Mrs. E. A. Seal, our secretary, for her untiring work, and all members of the association. I am sorry to say that we- will be without the services of two good workers this year, Messrs C. Cheeseman and E. Thomas, who have Jeft the district. In conclusion, I feel sure that we will have an even better season this year than last." Secretary's Report. The secretary reported as follows: — "The season recently concluded was most successful with a membership of 152 players, «comprising four men's and seven ladies' teams. A very pleasant day Was spent when five-a-side men's and seven-a-side ladies' tournaments were held at Levin. Levin A won the Cheeseman Cup and Raukawa A the Wise Cup, both receiving buttons. The North-South ladies' games resulted in wins for both south teams. On the same day men's trial games were played. "Several teams from our association took part in a ladies' and men's tournament at Feilding. Our meetings throughout the season were well attended. A letter has been forwarded to the New Zea~land Hockey Association for Horowhenua men's direct affiliation. We have now the Green ■ cup and the Nieolson and Easton Cup, both these "'trophies being for men's competitions. We deptore' the' passing of two of our executive officers, Messrs Nieolson and Witchell, both these men having in the past seasons helped to make hockey a success in this district. May I thank the referees who so willingly came forward every Satufday. "We have a credit balance of some £29, which must be considered very good, as we started the season with no funds. In conclusion, may I express my appreciation to the president, Mr. Trass, and members of the association for the work done to encourage the growth of hockey in the Horowhenua district."
