U.S. Praise For British Budget
Received Thursday, 8 p.m. WASHINGTON, April 6. The announcemeht by Sir Stafford Cripps of the continuance of Britain's austerity programme, should" make Americans ashamed of complaining .of the pin-pricks of their own econoniic problems, said ViceRresident Barkley when speaking at a dinner in honour of the British^ members of the Anglo-American i*roductivity Council. ' ' Sir Stafford today released a new Budget in which nearly everything the consumer needs has it's taxation increased .rather than decreased," said Mr. Barkley. '.'This is a new step in a programme of austerity whiqh we are boimd to admire." It was a wonderful example to the United States and showed a spirit of determination and ■ f ortitude which could not be measured by modern standards. It was • an example of what could be done by cooperation and not by coercion.
