Levin School Pupils Receive Swimming Awards
The swimming certificates won this season by pupils of the Levin Primary School were presented to them yesterday ' morning by the president of the Levin Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club, Mr. W. G. Phillips. In introducing Mr. Phillips, the headmaster, Mr. H. F. McClune, made reference to the excellent work he had done as„ president of the club. There had been real enthusiasm and interest in the progress of the Junior members and many hours had been spent in tuition. Mr. McClune also mentioned the fine work done by the custodian of the Coronation Baths, Mr. F. Taylor, in coaching and supervision. Mr. Phillips congratulated the winners of. the awards and laid stress on the importance of swimming, both for the deveiopment of the body ahd the mind. He recalled the number of fatalities each year brought about because people could not swim, and remarked how disappointed he was that so many children at the school were still; unable to swim.
