The school roll was now 683, the highest lt "had ever been, said the headanaster, Mr. H. F, McClune, in a report to the monthly meeting of the Levin School Committee on Monday night. Those present at the meeting were Messrs. A, 0. • Kennerley (chairman) , D. P. Todd, A. R. Ransom, J. Corry, A, Shaw, W. A. Whiteman and._ the headmaster. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs. R. H. Long and FV O. Malcolm. In reply to the committee's re-" quest for, the interior. renovation of the school, a letter Was read from the Wellington. Education BOard advising that one of its officers would inspect the building with a view to repofting thereon.- Mr. Tpdd commented that the committee had also asked the board to agree to the appointment of a parttime clerical assistant and to supply a duplieator and typewriter, but no reply had yet been received on these matters. There was a brief discussion of the delay in the additions to the dental clinic .building, it being mentioned that the foundations had been laid some six weeks ago yet nothing further had been- done. aecided! to approach' 'the contractors and ask that the work .o't- xpedited. A copy of Mr. G. L. Adkin's latest book on Horowhenua as a presentation to the school library was received from Mrs. R. J. Law*, a former pUpil. The chairman commented "that this would be a handsome addition to the library and it was resolved to write to the donor expressing thanks for her gift. « Mr. Todd mentioned that the Levin Junior Chamber of Commerce had undertaken, as one of its projects for the year, to have the schoQl football field levelled and put irito first class order. Mr. Corry advised that levels would be taken in the. next few weeks and a report made to the May meeting of the committee. It was intended _ to have everything ready for a spring sowing of the grass, he added. Members voiced gratification and appreciation . of the chamber's interest and assistance. Headmaster's Report Tpie grounds and buildings were in reasonably good order, said Mr. McClune in his monthly report, Arrangements ha'd been made for the cutti'ng'of rthe grass on the football field. Fifty. chPdren had obtained swimming certificates this seasoii. Friend-ly- gamefe of cricket and lon'gbafi- had' ' been-; played with the -Shannon- School.
