Arrangements For Easter Sports Discussed
. — . — The Otaki and District Horse Club, which met earlier in the week, reports that arrangements are proceeding smoothly in connection with its annual sports and picnic meeting, which. is to take place on Easter Saturday. Increased prize money has been allotted in mahy of the jumping events, the open jump now being worth £12 10s to the winner, with other first prizes ranging from £5 down. For the axemen's events, which proved - highly popular with the public and competitors -alike last year, the ring has been made twice t'he size to cope with the expected increase in the number of contestants on this occasion. The number of events has also been increased, six figuring on the programme this year, compared with foqr last year'. Tne big chop carres a first prize of £12 10s, and besides this a yery handsome siiver cup, valued fet £15 15s and acclaimed as being a particularly handsome one. Competition is certain to be very keen for this award. Also on the programme are featured Highland dancing, athletic events and sideshows, while tne Otaki Band will provide music throughout the day. Present in'dications are that this year's function should eclipse its immediate predecessor.
