MANAKAU'S MEETING

The annual meeting of " the Manakau Women's Institute was held recently. There was a very good attendance of members. After Mrs. Barbery vacated the chair, Mrs. Thompson, of Porirua, presided and the election of offlcers took place. Mrs. Willis was voted to the chair and nominations for the new committee were cal'ed for. After the business was completed, Mrs. Thompson gave a very interesting talk on institute work and also read a letter from an

institute in South Africa which proved most interesting. Tne retiring president, Mrs. Barbery, was presented with a beautiful box of dahlias. The retiring secretary, Mrs. Willis, and Mrs. Thompson both received very pretty bouquets of flowers. The winners of the competitions for the year were:— Mrs. Nielsen 1, Mrs. Dorset 2. Best flower: Mrs. Dorset 1, Miss Cotter 2. Afternoon tea was then served by the hostesses. After the annual meeting had concluded, the president called her committee together and held a short meeting.0 Mrs. B. Robinsoii and Mrs. E. H. Bryant were elected vice-presidents, Mrs. Barbery secretary and Mrs. Hill treasurer. Mrs. Shepherd offered to be librarian once again. Other members of the committee are Mesdames Bowling and Nielson, and Miss Cotter.
