Annual Meeting Of Otaki Institute
" ^ The annual meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute was held „recently. Mrs. J. Ross, who ,?presided, introduced Mrs. Thompson, of the South Wellington Federation, who was present to conduct the meeting. Several new members were welcomed, these being Mesdames C. Kemp; F. Thorpe and W. Duncan, and Miss Morgan.
Arrangements were made lor members wishing to attend the Te Horo branch birthday party to travel by bus. Mrs. Ross sp ke of j the enjoyabie time spent by members wno had attended the Levin branch's birthday party, and re'gretted that owing to local functions only one member had been able to attend the Kimberley . institute's party'. j Arrangements were made for entertaining members of the visiting; Milson Institute at morning tea in the Anglican Hall. Because of | the busy time so many members |had experienced during the recent carnival, it was decided that the annual garden party be cancelled, i and that a collection be taken at 'the next meeting, the proceeds to Ihe sent to Wellington .headquarters Ifor the building fund. It was • agreed that the 18th birthday party | be held on April 26, and that it be
an evening entertamment. The thought for the month was given by Mrs. J. Meagher, and competitions for the next month are to be for the best flower, best shrub, plum jam and an article suitable for the arts and crafts exhibition. , ^ The annual meeting was then proceeded with. The secretary presented her annual report, whne the financial report was presented by the treasurer, the garden circle report by Mrs. G. M. Kirk, the drama report by Mrs. A. W- Empson and the singing circle report by Mrs M. McConville. Reports of Home and Country subscriptions and funds for overseas parcels were also given.
Mrs. Ross thanked aii memDers who liad worked to make the 'year so happy and suecessful, and spoke in appreciative terms of all who had helped, her committee, treasurer secretary, tea hostesses, Mrs. C. Robertson, Mrs. H. T. Mould for her.fine effort in raising funds for overseas parcels by card evenings, Mrs. F. Hunter garden. circle leader, Mrs. L. Moss drama producer, Mr. W H. Townrow singing circle conductor, and Mrs. H. F. Tews piariiste. , , . Mrs. Ross then vacated the chair and Mrs. Thompson presided, calling for nominations for president. None were forthcoming and accompanied by enthusiastic applause, ' Mrs. Ro^s returned to the chair for the current term. Mrs. Thompson congratulated Hrs. Ross, and spoke glowingly c' v.he work of the various circle Ohe speaker reininded member that the institute was the bigges wouien's organisation in the worKv. md that members should be provt of their association with such ^rand movement. Mrs. Thompson offered suggestions for extra interest at meetings and read a letter from a link in South Africa, tejling >of a variety of institute activities and showing that the same spirit was active everywhere. The speak■fcr concluded with good wishes for a suecessful year. Mrs. Ross, in thanking Mrs. Thompson, made a presentation to her of a floral bouquet. Competition p'rizes for the year ,were won by Mrs. H. Heatherwick for best flower, Mrs. H. T. Mould for best shrub, Mrs. S. Brooks for cooking and Mrs. N. Radcliffe for handwork. , A delightful afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, after which the , singing circle presented a bracket of songs.
