Indonesian Charges Against Netherlands
NEW YORK. March 21. Dr. Palar, Indonesian delegale, claimed in the Security Council today that the Dutch were destroying the Republican eapital of Jogjakarta. He said"It is apparently the aim of the Dutch to make it phvsically impossib'lv for the Republican Government to restore Jogjakarta or resume its functions there. The Dutch are terrorising and mistreating the Indonesian leadevs whom we need for the well func^oring of the Government." Dr. Palar said the Netherlands had tried to give tlne unfounded impression that the Republicans were agains. federalism and the Republic would impose its hegemony on all Endonesia. The Indonesian delegation sought, tirst ly, the iinniediate carrving out of the
Security Council rcsolution of Januan 28; seeondly, a preliminary conference to ensure the immediate return of the Republican leaders to Jogjakarta; thirdly, a report by the United Nations Commissioh on the situation in Jogjakarta. The Security Council resolution of January 28 provided among other things for the immediate cessation of hostilities both by the Dutch and Indo nesian guerrillas; the release of all Republican leaders arrested by tht Dutch since December 17; an interim 1 l Eederal regime to be established in Indonesia by^March 15; elections to be iield by October 1, 1949, for a Constitu ent Assembly; the t.ransfer of sovereignty from the 'Netherlands to the United States of Indonesia t.o' bo com pleted by Julv 1, 1950.
