Electric Power Project On Waikato River

AUCKLAND, March 22. The diverison of the Waikato River at Maraetai for the North Island'a fargest hvdro-electric power station will be possible soon. The inlet at the. upstream end of the diversion tunnel is to be opened to the river on Thursday or Friday. This brings closer the construction of the dam and the power house in the project planned to be completed by 1952. When the narrow rock barrier at the inlet to the diversion tunnel is blown this week a 45-ton gate wil! bloclc the river water flowing right through the Jiual inspection tunnel and the gate will be made before Thursday by designing engineers from Wellington.
