Incorrect Loading Caused Plane Disaster
Received Wednesday, 12.5 a.m. MELBOUR'NE, March 22. The Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr. Drakeford) announced that an interim report on the crash of the Queensland Airlines Lodestar near Coolangatta on March 10 in which 21 persons were killed revealed that ihcorrect distrijration of the load had caused instability beyond the control of the pilot. The report declared that wrong loading had placed the centre of gravity behind the limit permitted by the certificate of airworthihess. Mr. Drakeford said as the ihvestigatioh had clearly indicated the cause of the crash iio air court inqUiry wottld be ordered. There was no sign of structural failure by a thorough examihation of the Wfeckage. The plane' s load sheet showed that it was Within its permissahle all-up weight.
