Borough Administration

Only routine business matters were . attended to at the usual f ortnightly meeting of the Shannon Borough Council. In order that members of the council could attend the concert arranged by the carnival committee, the meeting was commenced early and eomplet-

ed betore 7.45 p.m. The Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, .presided oyer Crs. H. L. Nor-ris, R. S. Downes, L. G. Sayer and "C. M. ' Cronquest. Apologies for absence were.received from Crs.'B. "Clayton and.V. J. Bateman. Three: building permits,! ..which had been approved of hy the chairman of the.-bdilding committee; /C'r. Bateman, were tabled and approved of by- the council. -They were for the erection of a dwelling valued at £1400, repairs to a dwelling amounting to £50 £(nd for the erection of a fowl house. . The chairman of the works committee, Cr. Sayer, reported that good progress had been made with the maintenance,. sealing work on the borough ■ streets '' stnd '* t urlher materials had heen >■ ordered. An inspection of the borough streets" has been carried out and Cr. Sayer' - said that jhe /would draw up a schedule of! work requiring attention. Attention will be given to a footpath frontage at the State house units at the corner of Ballance and Margaret Streets. In reply to a question by Cr, Norris, Cr. Sayer said that the matter of rubbish on borough streets would receive attention. On the motion of Cr. Downes, it was resolved to write to the Railways Department with a request that the crossings at Vanee and Sheehan Streets be sealed. The secretary of the Middle Distriets Aero Club made application for permishon to have an aircraft fly over the borough to drop leaflets on April 9. This was granted. The passing of accounts amounting to £273 6s lOd terminated the business of the meeting.
