Telford also intimated his intention of resigning, stating that his wife's health was such that he would be compelle-d to discontinue servihg dn, the council. Tlie Mayor, in expressing regret at losing the services of $3r. Telford, asked him if he would consider taking leave of absence fof a period in preference to retiring A motion allowing him three. months' leave of absence was later passed by the council. The two retiring councillors were elected to office in May, 1944, and were returned at the elections in N ovember, 1947.
