Two Borough Councillors Resign

A jy-election will accordinvTy be aeeftssary at a later date. . , ' The resignation of Cr. Chainey was given by him verbally at last night's . meeting of the . counci after the business had been dispensed with. He stated that the reason he could no longer serve Was the growth of his* duties in connection with " his business Regret Was expressed by the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, and the; councillors that Cr, Chainey cotil'd n" lbnger sea his way clear to contihud. Cr. Gardiner submitt&d his resignation from the couhfiil to the town clerk, Mr. H. L. Jenkins. this morning. No explanation was given During the meeting Cr. W." Telford also intimated his intention of resigning, stating that his wife's health was such that he would be compelle-d to discontinue servihg dn, the council. Tlie Mayor, in expressing regret at losing the services of $3r. Telford, asked him if he would consider taking leave of absence fof a period in preference to retiring A motion allowing him three. months' leave of absence was later passed by the council. The two retiring councillors were elected to office in May, 1944, and were returned at the elections in N ovember, 1947.
