District Young Farmers Judge Stock
By securing first place ih the draught horse class, and second place in tne dairy cow clas's, C. Beck (Upper Hutt) woh the V. C. LeWis cup fof the contestant gaining the mcst points at the Horowhenua District Young Farmers' Clubs stock judging competition, held at the Levin Showgfounds last The district chairman, Mr. E Dittmer, in presentihg the cup on behalf of the donor, congratulated Mr. Beck and thanked all those who had contributed to the success of the contest." Although the attendance at the field day was comparativelv small, the district was very well represented and the keenness shown by all Who had taken part- was most encoufaging. He also congratulated the winners in the various stock fclasses and
presented the certihcates. Tne chairman of the Levin Young Farmers' Club and vice-chairman of the district cb'mmitte'e,- Mr.4 D. Kilsby, thanked - - jddges for their very valuablc assistance 'in judging and demonstrating the stock classes", and for the time that ..they had so willingly given. Mr. G. W. Munford, on behalf of the judges, congratulated those who had taken part. He particularly emphasised the improvement which had taken. place in the judging since last year. .He spoke very highly of the stock judging activity in the Y.F.C. moyement, and said that the time spent in demon•strating stock. at such .competitions was well spent and very willingly •given. . Mr. H. J. Lancaster, the senior ■advisory member of the Levin club, thanked the district secretary •for making the arr-angements for the field day. Judges of the various competitions were: — Romney ewes: Mr. H. Vo'ss, of Karere, assisted by Mr. A. C. Morton, Massey Agricultural College; Southdown rams: Mr. G. W. Munford, Shannon; dairy cows: Mr. B. Kyle, Otaki; baconer pigs: Mr. M. W. Williams, Opiki; ■draught horses: Mr. R. R. Lirid, Bhannon. Detailed results were: — Romney ewes: D. Kilsby (Levin) 1, J. Moffatt (Otaki) 2* R. Gyton "(Pahautanui) 3. Southdown rams: C. Gwynn (Levin) 1, W. Coppin (Levin) 2, T. Lancaster (Levin) 3. Dairy cows: M. Rolston (Levin) 1, C. Beck (Upper Hutt) 2, D. ■Campbell (Levin) 3. Baconer pigs: W. Brpwne (Upper Hutt) 1, R. Hewitt (Levin) 2, I. VCampbell (Levin) 3. Draught horses: C. Beck (Upper Hutt)- 1, T. Fogden (Otaki) 2, R.
