ITALIAN COMMUNISTS SAY PACT THREATENS NEW WAR

Received Thursday, 11.5 a.m. ROME, March 16. The executive of the Communistdominated Italian Confederation of Labour has issued a manifesto declaring that the Atlantic Pact threatened a new war in which Italy would be the chief battlefleld and the major victim. The manifesto called on the Italian people to unite in showing their determination to save peace. Simultaneously with the publication of the manifesto, the walls and streets in Rome were chalked with slogans denouncing the pact. Workers in the shipyards and other industries in Geraoa staged a protest strike against it.
