Young Farmers Plan Stock Judging Contest

The district stock judging competition for young farmers' clubs in the Horownenua will now be held on Thursday, March 17, not March 16 as was previously announced. The reason for this change was given at the annual meeting of the Levin Young Farmers' Club l'ast night by the district secretary Of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. J. M. Hopkins. The usual field day heid by the Horo whenua Jersey Cattle Breeders' Club had been arranged for March 16, said Mr. Hopkins. At the time the date had been set for the stock judging competition, this had not been known, and it had • been pecessary to change the date of this fixture to avoid clashing with the association's field day. In a letter received at the meeting, Mr. Hopkins gave details of the events and the judges at the competitions. . He asked for a better representation of dubs. Commenting on this, the chairman of the club, Mr. D. Kilsby, said that he hoped members of the Levin club would give full support to the fixture. * ! A letter was also received from the Jersey breeders' club advising that ins-ead of the usual field day, it had been arranged to have a day 'at Massey Agricultural College, Palmerston North. Members of tne club were invited to attend. I - Following a short discussion, it twas decided to write to the secretary of the club, thanking it for its invitation and pointing out that with the two functions, the field day at Massey College on March 16, and the stock judging competitions on March 17, it was possible that no great response would he made to the former. However, as many members as possible would make the trip.
