New Zealanders were far too ajjt to resent even sound criticisms of coiulitions in tlie Doininion, stated tlie vicepresident of tlie New Zealand Society of Accountants, Mr. 11. 1). Brown (Hastings) at the annual meeting of the society at New Plymouth today. "We should welcome eritici'sm from eminent world figures and try to learn lessons from them," lie said. A recent criticism of a statemeut uiade by the Lord Mayor of London, Sir George Avlwen, that New Zealand had tliird and fourth rate industries, was quoted as an example by Mr. Brown. Sir George, he said, was an cxpert on the subject and had probabiy made liis statement with the idea of helping New Zealand. ''1 met Sir George during liis first visit to New Zealand and can vouch that he had studied tliis subject 011 which he was well (pialified to conunent and did 11 ot mahe his statement on anv superfieial knowledge," added Mr. Brown. New Zealand was not the only country criticised by Sir George as possessing tliird and fourth class industries. He had made a siiuilar statement regarding many of tlie industries in Great Britain.
