Ihakara Institute Meets
When the Ihakara Women's Institute met recently, the president, Mrs. Butt, presided over a fair attendance of members. Invitations were received from 'the Levin and Kimberley W.I.'s to be present at their birthday parties. During the afternoon, Mrs. Doyle ^ave a most interesting talk on her method of preparing peaches for bottling, using eau'Stic soda to remove the skins. Mrs. Ian Taylor sang some solos which were very much appreciated by those pr'esent. Nominations were then called for ■the officers for the ensuing year, the election to take place at the March meeting. Winners of the afternoon's competitions were:— Flower: Mrs. Ecclesfield 1, Mrs. Hall 2, Mrs. J: H. Rolston 3. Shrub: Mrs. R. J. Rolston 1, Mrs. J. H. Rolston 2, Mrs. Trotter 3. Points, raspberry jam: Mrs. R. J. Rolston 1, Mesdames Butt ' and R. MacLean 2 (equal) , Mrs. Hibhle 3. Dwarf beans: Mrs. Trotter 1, Mrs. Hibble 2, Mrs. R. MacLean 3. Runner beans: Mrs. Trotter 1, Mrs. Gardiner 2, Mrs. Hudson 3. A social cpmpetition was won by Mrs. Ian Taylor, while Mesdames Henderson, Bradfield and Ecclesfield conduct^d a successful bring-and-buy stall. A. dainty afternoon t'ea was ser'ved by the hostesses, Mesdames Rolston, Stewart and Stacey.
