Palmerston North Win Pennants Bowling

The Pennants bowling competition played for by teams in the Manawatu Centre was held on the Levin club's green on Saturday; when 16 teams from Takaro, Palmerston North, Dannevirke and Foxton clubs took part. After all-day play, the Palmerston North club was successful in winning the Pennants on points. Takaro were runners-up: In a match held prior to the competition, Foxton defeated Levin Central by three games to one. This game was played to decide who would go forward from the southern division of the centre to play in the Pennants. A very exciting match for the Dixon Cup between the Northern Bowling Club (holders) and Levin was played the same afternoon. The Northern rink was Boyes, Aekins, Sinclair, Skoglund (s) and the Levin rink Burnham, Nicholson, Rolfe, Meads (s). Northern were successful in retaining the cup by 22 points to 16. Levin \yere leading 10 — 5 at the ninth head and the 15th head saw Northern ahead 16 — 10. After that. Levin score'd a two and two singles, while Northern notched two threes. The main. factor in Northern's win was when Levin were lying four with a possible five. -Skoglund played a running shot into the head, scattered it and' left -Levin with one shot only. In another posijdon, Levin were lying two and Sinclair with an up shot eliminated- botn bowls. ______________
