Shannon Again Beaten In Cricket Competition
Beaten* only twice this season, the Shannon cricket team on Saturdoy suffered defeat at the hands of Weraroa, who scored an eightpoint win by an innings and 18 runs. . • ' In their firjst innings Shannon were dismissed for 77. McNeil contributed a useful 30 and H. Moore's 12 was the only other double-figure score. Highlight of the bowlirig was France's two wickets for one run. Other bowlers to take wickets were De Castro (three for 21) and Saunders (five for '41) . Weraroa did not make a very good stqrt a,nd at one stage were three down for 24. Best score was O'Dohneil's 43 not out. Keenan contributed a handy 28, while Wllson (14) and Jukes (11) were also run getters. Weraroa declared with 131 for the loss of eight wickets. Shannon's bowling was fairly strong and some good averages were returrfed by Munford (two for 17), Moore (four for 46) and Harris (t\^o for 10) . Shannon's second innings resulted in Weraroa dismissing them for 36t. Tippler (10) was the. only batsman to score double figures. France took two wickets for three run^, De Castro three for 11 and Saunders five for 21. College Beat Foxton College had a straight out- win over Foxton, beating them by 65 runs in a fast scoring match. With first use of the wicket, College compiled 175 runs in^ quick time. Lang turned a particularly bright knock to .- score 58 before being bowled by Walls. Ball (33) and Maclean (27) also proved themselves handy with the bat. Nettin (17) and Williams (10) were other double -figffre ' scorers. ' Carmont (three for 29). and Walls (six for 65) were the bowlers who. made their mark. . . .Foxton's innings resulted in 110 being scored in a short interval. Carmont (45) and Walls (27). were the mainstays of the team. In the bowling, Hamilton took four wickets for 36 runs, Maclean two for 19 and Ball two for 28. Win For College A . In the junior section College A had an eight-point win over Otaki, beating them by eight runs over two innings. Otaki had first use of the wicket and compiled 71. C. Cook (30), Templey (11) and Tahiwi and'Condant (10) being the main run-getters. Unfortunateiy, Otaki only fielded 10 men. Shee's bowling was exeeptonally good and in six overs, four of them maidens, he .took five wickets for .four yuns. , College repiied with 104 in their first qttempt.. Neill ' (21) ' apd Keenan (20) were the' Vop s'corers.. Snowden took four wickets ! for 2b runs. In their second innings, Otaki added 58. Tahiwi took the honours with his useful 44. In the bowling Coleman accounted for five wickets for 12 runs. College required 26 runs to win. Julius carried his bat for 23 (retired) , Neill was 6 (nof out) and Buckingham 5 (not out) at the end of time, giving College a win by eight runs. f }: " "
