Otaki Boy's Successes At Basin

Before a crowd estimated at 7000 at the Basin Reserve on Saturday, the Otaki youth, Ian Mudge, further enhanced his reputation by scoring three remarkable successes in the junior provincial championships. His first victory * was over one mile', and he did it from the front all the way. He followed this up by taking the 880 yards, again hitting the front from the start and staying there. Late in the afternoon he completed a noteworthy treble by winning handsomely over two miles, and- was„ given a welldeserved ovation. Mudge has had a particularly busy week. At Levin recently, he took the open mile, while at Otaki, as a preliminary to his treble success at the Basin, he surprised by beating the sprinters, winning heats of the 100 yards and the 220 yards.
