Cracked Insulator Causes Power Failure

When an insulator on one of the Horowhenua Electric Power Board's feeder lines short-circuited last night, re'sidents of Levin and farmers living in the north-eastern area of- the' district suffered a blackout. ' The break occurred about 9.30 p.m. and powfer was restored within 15 minutes in Levin. According to the board's engineer, Mr. J. F. Bryce; many of the insulators are fairly old and devClop fine cracks which only become apparent when wet weather causes a short-circuit. This occurred last night at Koputaroa and the whole of the district from Levin across to Shannon was affected. The part of the township which was without power included the picture theatra and patrons had a fairly long wait in the middle of the film. Emergency lighting lit the theatre during the blackout. About'. 9.45. p.m., power was restored to the township but the area from Tiro Tiro Road corner north was without electricity for some time thereafter.
