Assault Charge Dismissed
! A charge of assault preferred against J. A. Persson, of PalmersI ton North, was dismissed as trivial 'by the magistrate, Mr. A. M. Gouldilng, S.M., in the Magistrates' ! Court, Otaki, on Thurs'day. i Sergeant W. S. Hughes said that ; the case arose from a compiaint tnat defendant had slapped an eight-year-old boy, who, with other children, had played with Persson's dinghy. When told that the la'dy in charge of the children was swimming nearby, defendant said she should have shifted them, adding that his boat had been damage'd. He had seen the boys from his house and the others had run away when they had seen him approach. "I gave one a clip behind the ear. Vandalism by boys today is terrible and they were working overtime to get my boat into the sea," said Persson. He ha'd not harmed the boy. Mr. Goulding said that the boys had obviously damaged the boat and agreed that vandalism by boys was taking place. He would, therefore, treat the charge as trivial.
