Wandering Stock Charges
Charged with allowing stock to , wander in Queen Street, T. Hetariki was fined 10s by Mr. H. J. ; Thompson, S.M., in the Levin court I yesterday. He was represented by iMr. J. P. Bertram. The Horowhenua county ranger, Mr, W: W. V. Cressy said he had received a compiaint that a stallion was wandering in Queen Street. He had collected the horse, but as the pound was closed had[ put it in a padfiock overnight. The following day the horse was.gone. He had interviewed defendant, who hafi admitted ownership of the horse. Mr. Thompson: Have you had previous trbuble with defendant. — No, no trouble before. On a similar charge, D. H. Mur-1 ray, was fined £1, with 10s costs. He was.represented by Mr. Bertram. The county ranger said in evidence that he had investigated a compiaint and found seven cows at large on Muhunoa West Roa'd. He had gone to defendant's residence, but had found him put. He had then requested the drover, who a.d-' mitted the cows were 'defendant's, to see that they were put in a paddock. At 7 p.m. the stock were stili on the road. For defendant, Mr. Bertram said that the cattle had wandered on to the road through a gate, which ha*d • been left open by persons crossing over the property.
