Two Collisions With Sequel in Court
Oonsequent on an accident at the corner of Queen Street and Weraroa Road recently, ip which two children sustained slight injuries, Noel William Henry Gooding, farmer, of Beach Road, was charged in the Levin court yesterday with failure to give ,way to trafflc on his right. "There is a letter from 'defendant, but he does not actually admit guilt," said the magistrate, Mr, H. J. Thompson, when Sergeant W. Grainger intimated that defendant had stated his intenfcion of pleading guiity. Ip evidence,' Sergeant Grainger state'd that defendant had been driving up Queen Street from west to east. He had stated that . he had looked to left and right at the intersection, and had seen a car approaching from the right. It was almost on top of him. He had braked, but a collision had resulte'd. Defendant was convicted and fined £1 10s. Court costs were 10s. Resulting from an accident when her car met in a head-on collision with a timber lorry, Ida Pichoir Thompson, of Wellington, p^aded guiity by letter to a charge in the Levin court yesterday of failing to be in possession of a warrant of fitness for the vehicle. Sergeant W. Grainger stated that defendant was driving her car up Gladstone Road . on November 27 and met the lorry just round a sharp bend. Both vehicles had been travelling very slowly. Defendant cou'd not produce a warrant bf fitness for the vehicle, and it was later ascertained that one had not been issued for some time. Defendant was fined 10s by Mr. H. J. Thompson, S.M. Court costs were 10S. .
