You Have a Great Country, Scouts Told
WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. More than 3000 members of the Seouting movement were present at a camp lire held in honour of the Empire Chief Scout, Lord Rowallan, last night in the grounds of Mrs. Vivian Riddiford's residence, Lower Hutt, ana, organised by the Hutt Valley and Bays County of the Scouts' Association. Among those in the official party were Messrs. Nash, Moohan and Combs, M.P. 's. The camp fire waB officially lit by Lord Rowallan and then a programme of sketches and a tableaux was presented by troops of Scouts and Guides. Lord Rowallan conveyed the greetings of his Majesty who, he said, had emphasised his interest in Seouting in New Zealand. He also conveyed the greetings of the world Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell. Lord Rowallan told the story of Jan Van Holle, a Dutch Scout, who had given his life to save a bridge from destruction by the Germans. Many other Scouts had done deeds of great service to their countries during the war and he was proud to be able to call them his brothers. "I hope you will be as proud of your uniforms as they were of theirs," said the speaker. "You have a wonderful and lpvely country. I hope you will learn about and follow the great example of your fathers. ' '
