" A short earthquake was ' felt in Levin at about 3.30 a.m. this morning. It appeared to be travelling in a north-south direction and the tremors lasted about two seconds. Average Rainfall An average . rainfall has heen experienced in Levin during Jqnuary according to figures sqpplied by Mr. H. Harvey, Senr., of Cambridge ' Street. The total of 2.7 inches recorded for the month is a slight increase on the 2.43 inches which fell during January, 1948. In the same month in -1947, 3.42 inches Were recorded. Highest rainfall for a/iy one day was -experienced on Wednesday, January 19,. when 67 points were recorded. .Rain fell on 13 days during . the month.
