Discount On County Rates Brings Results

The • Horowhenua County Council's decision to allow a five per cent. rebate on rates paid by the end of September has had results, as the amounts collected by January 9 double those for the same period of the previous year. Rates levied for 1947-48 were £36,143, and for 1948-49 a total of £44,934. The amount collected to January 9 in the 1947-48 period was £11,061 (30.6 per cent.), as against the big increase for the 1948-49 period of £27,205 (60.5 per cent.). Rates ou'tstanding were shown as £25,082 in 1947-48 and £17,728 for the period this year. | Arrears of rates at April 1 in 1 1947-48 were £6085 and this year £6389. j The amount collected to January 19 for the former period was £885 and in the current period £1172.
