Man Arrested In Levin Sent To Gaol
"Accused is a member of the criminal class and has been in gaol more often than he has been out. He has been 'cadging' money around the town and buying methylated spirits with it. Since 1917 he has been leading the life of a petty thief and a vagrant, and when he was arrested he had only 6d in his posSession." This was how Sergeant W. Grainger described Thoraid Oswald George Knudson, aged 68, of no fixed abode, who pleaded guilty to a charge of being idle and disorderly, and having no visibl^ means of support, when he appeared in the Magistrate's Court, Levin, yesterday. Messrs. J. W. Rimmer and M. deL. Wright, J.P.'s sentenced Knudson to three months' imprisonment. Sergeant Grainger told the court that Knudson had come under the notice of the police early on Sunday morning. He was given the opportunity to seek employment then and again at a later date. He needed some protection for his own good. ,
