Thief Occupies House While Owners Away
AUCKLAND, Jan. 12. A tliief who had lived for some days on provisions in a 'house at 85 Victoria Avenue, Remuera, was evidently surprised and foreed to make a kurried exit when the owners returned today from a holiday. When Mr. and Mrs. N. W. Stevens arrived at their home they found the front door had been loclced in such a way that they could not open it. On going to the back of the house they discoyered that a windo-w had been foreed. Inside they found that a "squatter" had been drinking champagne and 6mo.lcing cigars and cigarettes in tho drawing room. Tinned food -from the pantrv had been eaten and the tliler" had also removed a suitease, presumablv containing provisions, and som§ keys. Otherwise he had left the house fairly tidv even bothering to use asli trays. No valuables had been stolen.
