Maori Queen Now Leads
The fourth barometer change in the Otaki War Memorial Queen Carnival sees some interesting alterations, the Maori Queen, who was at the tail of the field at the last reading, having made a rapid advance to first place. The present position is as follows, last weex's figures being given in parentheses: Maori, 8282 (2013); Citizens, 8049 (6980); Farmers,*6215 (2738); Textiles, 5491 (5022); Sports, 5307 (5038). Interest is apparently quickening and, judging by the attendances at the new siue since the . sideshows have been removed from the beach to the town, a large number • of residents approve of the move.. Committees are evidently pianning now to go further afield with their activities, and coming events include a days greyhound racing at Foxtpn Beach on Annivefsary Day, January 22. The Olympic Club, of Palmerston North, holds a permit for two days at Foxton each. year and has generously agreed to give one day to the Sports Queen uommittee. A dance, which is expected to prove hignly successful, has been pianned oy the Textiles Queen Committee for Friday, January 21, in the Ohau Hall, when free buses will run. All arrangements are reported to be progressing satisfactorily. An event likely to create considerable local interest is a concert arranged by the Maori Queen Committee to take place on Sunday, January 16, in the Civic Theatre, - vhen the Horowhenua juveniie concert party will be featured. Talent Quest Voting Voting at the talent. quest o'n Wednesday night showed Mr. J. Raika as winner of the "A" class for the first night, the Murray Sisters winners of the "B" class, and the Murray quartette winners of the "C" class.
