December Weather

The weather in Otaki for the month of December was very favourable, particularly to holidaymakers. Although rain fell on 13 days, compared with 10 days in 1947, the rainfall was less than last year. A total of 142 points was recorded, as against 160 points in 1947. The dispersal of the rainfall was in the main greatly beneficial, the highest recorded by Mr. F. H. Critchley, of Otaki Beach, being ,32 points on the 7th. The month was ushered in with a light fall of snow on the ranges on the 2nd, and further variety was experienced when a sharp earthquake shock was felt on the 28th at 12.50 p.m. Cairn weather was recorded at 9.30 a.m. on 19 days.
