Household budgeting must be a worrying business for the average American wife these days, for this is what she must pay for the following staple foods: — Mince meat, 3s 6d to 4s 6d a ib:; roast beef,.12s . 6d to 18s; rabbit, 12s 6d; chicken, 7s 6d to 25s and 30s; butter, 4s 6d a lb.; bacon, 4s 6d to 5s 6d a lb.; eggs, 3s 6d to 5s a doz.; bread, Is a lb. loaf; sliced ham, 8s lb.; pork chops, 8s and 9s a lb.
