Maori Struck By Train And Killed Instantly
Struck by thesNew PlymauthWeilington express at a private level crossing half a mil© north of Manakau, about 5 p.m. on New . Year's Eve, a Maori, Teao Katene Abraham, aged 49, single, of Waitotara, was killed instantly. Abraham, who was blind, "was spending a holiday^ at Manakau with his nephew, Mr. Ronalid Kaha. The crossing where the accident occurred gives access to Mr. Kaha's residence. Abraham had spent the afternoon in Levin and returned to Manakau by bus, the driver assisting him over the crossing from the main highway. Apparently he subsequently decided to return and it was then that he met his death. An ipqpest was opened the followipg day before the district coroner, Mr. W, A. Calwell, and after evidence of identification was adjourned sine die.
