Freak Whirlwind Sends Hay Up 300 Feet

The s'ight of considerable quantities of freshly ciit hay being shot up into the sky by a freak whirlwind, diverted much attention to the property of Mr. H. Noble of Arapaepae Road at 5.30 p.m. yesterday. The whirlwind measured about eight feet across and the hay was thrown up 300 feet ffcud some even higher. After carrying the hay over the' property of Mr. F. O. Malcolm, the whirlwind continued for a few hundrqd yards then gradually diminished. At its height it was most spectacular and many motorists stopped to watch. Small whirlwinds were also reported in other parts of the, district. The day was otherwise cairn.
