Shannon School Committee's Meeting

The usual monthly' mesting of the Shannon School Committee was held in the school o:i Monday?,' when the chairman, Mr. A. E. Jeffrey, presided over Messrs. L J.v Bowlef (secretary), F. E. '.Bradey,' E. H. Barber, is. J. Free, R. E. Vinsen ahd F. J. Lucinsky, Mbsdaints W. Easton and C. Stern. The headmaster, Mr. F. O. ' Burtt. was also present. * It was resolved that letfcers of appreciataon be sent to Mr, J. Ritchie for his kind assistance in' the cartage of lambs during the recent calf judging day, and also to Messrs. S. W. Carter and A. R. Mills for donations to the caif club. It was decided to instruct the local delegates to the Horowhenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Cxub to raise the matter of washing fambs. , . . . : Headmaster's Report In his monthly renort, the headmaster, Mr. Burtt, sta'ced that the roll at the end of the month of November stood( at 157 boys and 145 girls, a total of 302 pupds. "The average attendance o/er Ihe month was 148 boys and 136 girls. The district nurse, Sister Macdonald, carried out her routine ir.spection of the pupils during the month and the pupils of Standard 1 were X-rayed at the Palmerston North Hospital as advised at a previous meeting. The annual examinations have been conducted. The recently-purehased radio, gramophone and public address system has already been used to advantage in the school arid it will also serve as a valuable teaching aid. .The Wellington Automobile Association's patrol officer, Mr. R. Keenan, visited the school and instructed the pupils in road safety in preparation for the forthcoming holidays. The school was visited by Messrs. G. H. Stubbs and-H. F. McClune, inspectors, and ' Mr. Bredner, of the Health Department, visited the dental clinic. "Mr. Burtt also advised of the successful calf club judging day and referred to the presentation of prizes. The school will close on Friday, December 17, and re-open on Tuesday, February 1, 1949. "A meeting was held in connection with the school's diamond jubilee and a very enthusiastic committee formed to make the arrangements for the function. The monthly meeting of the FarentsTeachers' ASsociation took the form of an open forum and was well attended. The next meeting, which will be the last for the year, will take the form of a social, and will be held on Mbhday, December 13. .
