O. Burtt)' advise'd that Miss. J. !D. Shanks, of the teaching staif, has received advice of her promotion to a senior position in a Wellington school, and she would he leaving the local school at the en'd of the term. Miss Shanks is one of the school's most popular teachers. Fire Siren Test At about ,8.30 p.m. on We'dnesday evening the superintendent of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade (Mr. ' C. D. Gyde) conducte'd a further test of the fire siren. The alarm was heard over a wide area, but is still not as lou'd as is desired. Almost a full muster of firemen answered the alarm within a very few minutes. > Further test-s will be carried.Out from time to time. School Prize-giving It was reported at Monday evening's meeting of the Shannon School Committee that the annual prize-giving ceremony will this year be conducted in the Druids' Hall instead of at the school, the usual practice in past years. The ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 16, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Ah invitation is extended to all parents and others interested to attend.
