Presbyterian Ladies' Guild
» — • The usual monthly meeting of the Presbyterian Ladies' Guild was held in Laurvig's Hall on Wednesday afternoon and took ihe form of a social afternoon. Rev. J. W. Martin presided over a large attendance. During the afternoon Miss Lois Lind 'delighted those present with an elocutionary item and MisS Martin rendered vocal - items. Pianoforte solos were contributed by Mises Doull and Steele of Foxton. Amusing competitions were held and the winners were Mesdames McLeish and A. Clayton. A derightful afternoon tea was served, after which Mr. Martin un'derto'ok the pleasing duty of handing gifts to nine members of the congregation. The reCipients were Mesdames Martin, War^ and McLeish, for serviceS rendered to the church, Misses Lin'd. King and Robertson and Mr. Stewart Alexander for their work in the Sunday • School, and Mrs. A. L. Clayton and Miss Clayton who were farewelled on the eve Of their 'departuye to reside in Levin. Great appreciation was voiced for the work which- various members have done and much regret was expresse'd that, in addition ■ to Mrs. and Miss Clayton, the congregation was also losing Miss Lind, who is to study at the Wellington Training College, and Miss King, who in futqre, will live at Lower Hutt. Expressions of thanks Were made by Miss Lin'd, who appealed for sympathetic interest in the Sunday school, -and by Mrs. Clayton, who spoke on the extension of the church which the guild was sponsoring, urging members to take a greater interest in the social as well as the spiritual life of the church.
