Coal Miners Out To Make New Records
GBEYMOUTH, Dec. 4. Tkougli they -failed- by a few tons to equal the reeorcL of the previous week, two Runanga miners, Messrs. Leaeh and Henderson, maintained the high rate of production in the Liverpool State iaine this Weok, produeing one-tenth of the eoal output from 70 pairs of miners. ■The pair "filled" 258 tons this week, eompared with 260 tons the previous week and their total production of 516 tons is a substantial contribution to the mine output of 5500 tons for the fortnight. Messrs, Leaeh and Henderson set new . figures for a single day 's output on Wednesday when. they fllled 126 boxes," which is six more than the long-stand-ing record of 120 boxes. They are working in what has been deseribed as a comparatively easy position. Another record was set at Ihe Liverpool mine on Wednesday. This was by the Rope Road workers, who pnt 187 half ton boxes of coal over the weighbridge in 25 minutes, so that the eoal was eoming from the mine at the rate of almost four tons a minute. The other Runanga State mine, the'Strongman, also figured in an effort to inerease production and in the past two weeks aehieved an output of 5200 tons, the second highest sinee the mine was opened about nine years ago. Attendanees at all mines during the month have been high. ' ,
