' The Hofowhenua - College's 'annual parents' and visitors' day on Friday will iprovide local residents with an excellent opportun--ity of seeing a typical cross-section !of school life. Sets of tipbins for the kitchen, draw-leaf vfables, turned coffee stools, sets of cocktail tables and trays, tea Wagons, side boards, stools- for the jdining room, shaving cabiriets, ✓ 'glory boxes, letter boxes and hosts of other artieles of furnitufe made by the students, - • The metalwork display will 'prbVe most interesting to- anyone With a mechanical turn, for it features bench vices hand made from one-eighth inch steel, solid 'steel hand vices, spirit levels cast .'in altlihinium by the students and 'many other artieles ranging from pipe clamps to pencil sharpeners. A feature of the home science jsection will be a dressmaking dis•iplay covering a wide variety of ^ ■garments, children's _ frocks, ;femocking, night attire, girls' 'frocks .and tailored suits. A parjticiflar portion of the display will be the work of the model flat, Which will be open to the public-. Here, a group of girls are trained 'each week in home management. On a specified allowance-, they plan and prepare meals for Six people. They may invite fguests to lunch and are trained to .'act as hostesses. The practical side of the cookery department will be -shown in the afternoon tea Which will be served to the visitors. , . , , ^ . . The work of the art students m tiesign, painting and poster work Will be demonstrated, while a display of model houses made by the ijunior home science classes as {jart of their training in _ home blanning will also be on vieW. The afternoon's programme will begin at 2 p.m. with a display of ■ 'military drill on the tennis 'courts. At- 2.15 opportunity will be given to hear the school music In the assembly hall, following /which the visitors will be weleomifed by the principal, Mr, ,N. A. Byrne. From 2.45 to 3.30 p.m. the visitors will inSpect the displays. !At the conclusion afternoon tea Will be served. Visitors are invit!(ed to view the school grounds, the fiowers of which are in fu'll bloom ut present, and are a particulariy /attractive sight. If the day is .'fine, afternoon tea will be served in'the quadrangle.
