MASTERTON, Dec. 1. The seriousness of damage to forest foliage by pests, particulariy opossums, and the imperative need for some effective control measures to' prevept further forest destruction were strongly emphasised by Mr. Duncan McGregor, chairman, at a meeting of the Wairarapa Catchment Board, commenting on the report of the special committee of the board, which included Messrs. V. Zotov (botanist) and C. O. Bridgeman (forest ranger). The report stated that deer, goats and pigs were on the inerease in the forests of the Wairarapa areas. A recommendation was made that the State Forest Service, Department of Internal Affairs and Department of Scientific and Industrial Research be approaehed and asked to delegate an officer to assist and. work in cooperation with an officer of the Wairarapa board 1 to carry out a complete investigation during the summer, and bring down a comprehensive report and recommen•dation.
