Probably the best efforts for a number of years to improve fishing conditions in the Taupo area were made during the past closed season by officers of the Internal Affairs Department. Rangers continually patrolled rivers and bays around the lake to pfevent poaching during the spawning season, whieh was later this yeai than usual. For about thi'eequarters of a mile above Huka Falls, on the eastern side mf the Waikato River, all gl'OWth W.as cjeared to provide amplq fQQm fQI about 20 rods. Notices indicating the good poQis were also ereeted for visitors. At Waitahanui the river was diyerted to bring in the famous Poi pool. In a numbef of places on the river small feotbpidges and handrails weje piovid' ed to enable less active anglers to reach the pools without difftculty.
