College Beaten In Two-day Cricket Match

In a two-day match with a Horowhenua College first eleven, the Dannevirke High School were the winners by 95 runs over two' innings. The game was played in good weather, Dannevirke" batting first and compiling a total of 72 runs. TI Harrison, who made 25 of these, was the only outstanding' batsman. R. Chevis took three 1 wickets for five runs and D. Lang two for 6. . j In reply, Horowhenua notchedj 39, top scorer being F. McClune| who contributed nine runs. R. j Gilbertson collected six wickets , for 16 runs in a briiliant display of, bowling. In the second innings Dannevirke made 110 runs, B. Gilbertson contributing 27 and • T. White 24. D. Lang again took the honours by *colleeting three wickets for 20 runs. Horowhenua were dismissed for 48 in their second innings, best bat being McClune 'who made 10. R. Gilbertson took two wickets for no runs, while B. Gilbertson felled three wickets for 15. Collett took four for 21 and F. Gilbert one for 3. This was Horowhenua's first game of the season and consequently the batsmen were feeling their way, but came up against solid bowling from the home team. Highlight of the day was the creditable performance of, B. Allwood as wicket-keeper for Horowhenua. His first experience in this position, he was responsible for the dismissal of eight of the home batsmen.
