Vegetable Prices Remain Firm
Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merehants, Wellington, report that during the past week the market for citrus fruits has improved and the demand is very strong. Vegetab.es of practical.y all varietjes have met with a keen demand and ceiling prices have been the order of the day. Lines being most enquired for are green peas, lettuce and asparagus. Heavy yardings of poultry have been offered, but values are firm. Last week's quotations are as follows: — Fruit: New Zealand grapefruit, 12s to 16s per bushel; N.Z. sweet oranges, 14s to 22s; tree tomatoes, 10s to 14s 6d per half case; Meyer lemons, 6s to 9s half case. Vegetables: Cabbages, spring and savoy, swedes, parsnips, carrots, silver beet, pumpkins, all ceiling price; leeks, 17s to 28s case; lettuce, 10s to 25s; rhubarb, 4s to 8s cases; Canterbury rhubarb, 2s 6d to 3s per heap; spinach, 26s to 32s per case; asparagus, ls 4d to 2s lb.; cueumbers, hothouse, ls to ls 9d each; spring onions, 2s to 5s per bunch; mint, 4d to 9d; parsley, 6d to 9d per bunch; peas, ls 3d to ls 9d; new potatoes, 2Jd to 4d lb.; beetrcco, 18s to 22s case.
