Offer Of £30 To Procure State House
WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. Gfaham David Corrin, a metal polisher, aged 25, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court to corruptly offering Jack Leopold Gaelie, a civii servant, £30 as an indueement to allot liini a Htijle rental house. Gaelie said Corrin telephoned him on May 6 and asked what was the position in regard to his application for a house. He was informed that there was 110 prospect for some time. Corrin said he had been told that there were means of obtaining keys to a house by making a cash payment to tlie right quarter and he was prepared to pay £30. Corrin repeated the offer on another occasion. Albert Edward Dawson; assistant branch manag'er of the State Advances Corporation, Wellington, said he was with Gaelie when Corrin. came in on June 17. Corrin then admitted that he had ofl'ered £30. In a statement to Detective-Sergeant W. ,T. Mason, Corrin said his offer of £30 was a general one. He denied that it was a bribe. The ease had been quite clearly proved-, said the Magistrate, Mr. II. J. Thbmpson.
