American Dollars To Make France Strong
Received Tuesdav. 7 p.m. LONDOX, Sept. 7. Ameriea wants France to use onetliird of her Marshall aid dollars for the purchase of arms, mostly made in Britain. Reporting this last night, the Dailv Express Paris correspondent says it reverses Watlington poliev. A year ago, he points out/'France asked if Marshall aid dollars could be used for military purposes and the answer was a blunt "no." Now, according to the correspondent, Mr. Averell Harriman, the Marshall aid administrator, has stepped in saying he is convinced that a strong France is essential to defend Marshall aid investments in Eurolie. 1 1 e has reported to Washingfon that unless Western Union eountries can defeiul themselves, Ameriea is wastiug dollars since the money wouhl be lost in an invasion.
