Flooding In The Moutoa

Giving evidence in the Foxton Magistrate's Court last week, Mr. H. R. Farquhar, engineer of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, gave some interesting statistics regarding fioodingfin the Moutoa area. He had kept personal records of flooding in this district, he said, since 1929. From that time until the present the Whirokino had been flooded each year except three. Some years flooding had been. much worse than others, but for the purpose of records no consideration was given to any flood which failed to reach a height of 10 feet a't the Fitzherhert Bridge. The year 1943 produced the maximum number of floods with eight during the twelve months. For eleven years during the period covered by the statistics, the Moutoa was heavily flooded. These years •were: 1929-32-35-36-38-, 39-41-42-43 -45-48/ "" Minor floods had occurred irT- 1930-33-40-44-46-47.
