Tokomaru Tops Dairy Payout

A xlecision to pay a further 2d per pound on butterfat supplied dnririg the year was made at the annual meeting of the Tokomaru Co-pperative Dairy Company. This extra amount wi'll bring the company's total butterfat payment to 2s 5d, the nighest payment in the Manawatu district this year. In addition, a five per cent. divi'dend on paid up capital will be paid out of the surplus balance, leaving £195 to be carried forward to next year's account. Reviewing the operation of the company during the pas't year, it ' could be' sai'd that from a production point of view. the season was the worst experienced for a number of yekrs because of drought conditions, stated the chairman of directors, Mr. J. R. Whyte, in moving the adoption of the annual report. The quantity of cheese manufactured, however, showed an increase of 36 tons an*d butterfat produced was 23,678 lbs. above that of last year. The drought caused the grade of cheese to be slightly lower than that for the previous year. Mr. Whyte thanked the suppliers for their support during the year, and the care they had exercised in supplying good quality milk. In the year 1946-47 the estimated payment per pound of butterfat (all gradesYwas 24.953d and the actual payout 25.707d, including the farm cost allowance, stated Mr. Whyte. A letter of thanks was sent to the Shannon Dairy Company for its financial support towards the veterinary club during the • past two years. A report on these activities was presented by Mr. J. H. Liggins, who stressed the importance of securjng an assistant for the veterinary surgeon, who was working as many as 18 hours a day at present. Messrs. J. H. . Liggins and E. E. Mabin were re-elected directors, and Mr. Liggins was appointed representative on the veterinary club. The directors of the company are Messrs. Whyte, Mabin, L. Wilton, Liggins and A. N. Kelly. The company manager is Mr. C. M. Walker and the secretary Mr. R. H. Spencer. Votes of thanks were accorded the chairman and the manager and his staff. It was mentioned that Mr. Whyte had filled the office of chairman for* the 33 years of the company's existence.
